About Golf Croquet

Golf Croquet is easy to learn and play. However, there is a certain amount of strategy and skill involved in winning the game and these are picked up as you play.

Each player takes a turn at hitting a ball through the same hoop in the sequence of blue, red, black, yellow. For alternative colours the sequence is green, pink, brown white. This sequence is repeated throughout the game and each turn consists of one stroke only.

Blue and black balls play as a team against red and yellow. With the alternate colours, green and brown play against pink and white. The player who is first to hit their ball through a hoop, wins that hoop for their team.

Once a hoop is won, all players progress in order to the next hoop until completion. We play 16 hoop games at Goolwa Croquet Club, with teams decided by random draw on the day.

These are the basic rules we play by, and will get you started if you are new. There are a few others but with our help you will pick these up.

The field layout is shown on the right. Hoops are played in number sequence and the arrow for that number indicates the side from which the hoop is played and the direction that the ball must travel through the hoop to score.

You are welcome to download and print the field layout to bring along. The download version is in black and white print so that it is easier to read.
